all that glitters

currently crushing on...

Sequins & Glitter!

No matter the color, accessory or article of clothing, it's another instant way to chic up any look!
Take a casual outfit and make it stand out, or go all out with an already dressed up look!
I'm longing to own a hot pair of Miu Miu glitter booties, and any sequined blazer.

parade

Hey guys !

So all weekend long I've been kind of MIA - with good reason!
BOTH kids had the stomach flu (oi!) and I was the only one looking after them cause John took extra shifts at work.
Because of that I've been trying to 'avoid the unavoidable' of myself getting it..it's been a day and nothing yet. Let's pray it stays that way!

Sunday we all mustered enough strength to go to the 'Annual Downtown Santa Claus Parade'.
It's no 'Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade', but I love it just the same.

It's a tradition that brings the people together to start the Christmas season on a positive note, and you get to see some friends you haven't in awhile!
That girl next to me there? That's Liz. I've mentioned her here before :)
I did see her a lot the past month, but she never attended before so myself, John, her and the kiddies all went.
We got halfway through and they both fell asleep so we decided to leave...it's always freezing on parade day!
At least we had a bit of fresh air and fun.
Here are a few snaps I took before we left.

Enjoy! :)

I'll be back with the regular scheduled programming tomorrow with the love list (because I realized after I had this typed that I didn't finish my love list polyvore set for today...oops..), then outfit on wednesday :)

the greatest journey

Every Thankgiving we show our gratitude to everyone and for all we have. The Christmas season we hustle and bustle wondering who to give to and what to give and where are we going to come up with the money.
Plus there's the visiting and the decorating and the cooking then the cleaning.

I myself am very guilty of 'living in the holidays'. Forgetting after Thanksgiving and Christmas, how much I do have, and how much I take it for granted.
However, there is a journey that happens every year for millions of boxes and it's the participation in this that keeps me thankful and grounded more each year that I partake.
(I'm not trying to say that I'm only thankful when I see the less fortunate, no. I'm saying it humbles me.)

This year the National Collection Week is November 21-27, right in the middle of all the Thanksgiving and Christmas commotion. You may have heard of it, you may not have.
It's called Operation Christmas Child.

Started by Samaritan's Purse - Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that has been providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world since 1970. Every year people all over the world fill shoe boxes with various things to send to the less fortunate children overseas, or wherever the need is.
These children have very little, if anything at all and their receiving a box is the best Christmas gift they'll ever have.

I used to do it with my school when it was a Christian elementary school, and in Sunday School at the church I attended. I'm not sure when I stopped or why I did.
The main thing is that I got back into it. I do it for them and for myself.
I love hearing the stories of children receiving their boxes, and the joy it brings me is unmatched.
This year I did 2 boxes; Boy & Girl aged 5-9
It's an amazing experience, and I recommend it to everyone!

Here are some of the items I put in my boxes.
School supplies are in major demand, so I made sure to put lots of those.
There are many necessities and some things for fun.
If you would like more information on how and what you can give, click here.
(I linked the Canadian site because it's easier to navigate)

The girls box all ready to be shipped!

This is always dear to my heart, so I wanted to share with you. Some of you might already participate either alone, or with family or a church. If you don't, there are always so many ways to give to this cause or others similar if the box isn't your thing.

My main point is to remind everyone that even thought we're usually at wits end during the holidays, remember that it's better to give than to receive.
Volunteer at a soup kitchen, sit and talk to that person at work you know is having a rough time, pray families are strong over the season, shovel your neighbors drive... even little things might change someone's outlook on the holidays!

Thanks for reading guys :)

Today was another 'one of those days', days.
I kind of just want to go eat myself into oblivion or sleep forever.
Trying to be optimistic and am hoping this weekend will be better.
Plus the Santa Clause parade is on Sunday!
It's like 1/32 of the Macy's but hey, better than nothing!
Will probably do a small post on it on Monday :)

Hope all my Americans friends and readers had and have a wonderful Thanksgiving day/weekend!
I believe we should be thankful everyday of the year, not just holidays. But sometimes we need a reminder to really take into account all we have to be thankful for!

I'm thankful for you guys everyday!

Apparently, this coat and this cardigan were meant to be.
Paired them here awhile back!
And of course the boots and skirt combo that I can't seem to get rid of.

Wore this to work, and of course sported the huge bun a la sock..my co-workers seem to love it!
I love this necklace, but where the denim flowers are, they are hot glued or something and it itches me..might have to glue a felt pad on the back!
Good idea?

[OH OH I just remembered while typing, exactly a WEEK from today I am going for my first wedding dress consultation.
WHAT
I swear it was yesterday we were counting down from 912 days.. its 7 months away...OI!]

If you follow me on Twitter you might be wondering where all the snow is in my outfit pics, because I posted a picture of what happened overnight...
3 feet of snow on my doorstep is what happened.
Dry to this (disgusting sight):

I swear I was supposed to be born in Texas..

Let's pretend my skirt isn't wrinkled (again) from sitting in church, and that my camera isn't so bad that it makes a dark green skirt look black.. and let's overlook that my hair is strewn everywhere in that last picture, okay?
In my defense, I could only use these three or nothing at all because for some reason, all my pictures from this outfit weren't being read right through the camera so I couldn't import them into Lightroom, or anywhere else.

Like always, this was my hundredth outfit I put on that morning and came up with this green/yellow/purple combo. I felt beyond crazy in it, like I was wearing a clown suit..
I tried to be optimistic and say that I was trying to experiment with color; totally true, but not to this extent by accident.

Oh, I have another confession.. since this optimistic streak was ongoing I emailed beloved Kendi tonight to see if (that is if by some chance she replies) she had an opinion on black vs taupe or burgundy boots & flat or heeled.
Hey, I'll never ever get a response if I don't try to email first right?

[Thank you guys for the overwhelming response on my Frye Boot post!
I'm still having a hard time, but I think I've narrowed it down more thanks to you all!]

I made a few decisions today that will thrust me forward as a person, and in my life in general.
I had a long time coming talk with my friend and Pastor about a a few things; baggage wise and faith wise that I needed to lay on the table.
And John and I had a consultation with our wedding decorator.
I feel like I've made more progress in one day than I have all year.

Moving forward is always such a scary thought, but it can also be a beautiful one.
I feel 2012 is going to be such a changing year for me.
I just need to start trusting God more and letting myself be exposed to Him.
He sees all anyway, so what's the sense trying to hide.

You do not clean yourself before you take a bath, so why try to clean up your life before going to the One who can cleanse you..

stroke of luck

{Let me start off with a disclaimer: I am NOT doing this to try and brag that "I won and you didn't", because it's a bunch of crap when people get on like that. I'm just ecstatic and would love to have your input on my choice.}

Guys,me and my TERRIBLE luck, well..lucked out!
The forever amazing Keiko Lynn teamed up with the equally amazing The Frye Company to host a giveaway a few weeks back...
I went to send a document to a friend and happened to be logged into my blog email, and there was her name, in my inbox!
"Keiko Groves, Re: Frye Giveaway Winner!"
I screamed. I jumped. I lost my voice. I pretty much died. I never win anything!
Let alone win, PLUS have Keiko sit and write an e-mail personally, to little ol' me!
I am BEYOND grateful to them for hosting such a huge giveaway, and thank the blog angels above for helping me be chosen in the infamous random number draw.

BUT
I need your help.
I get to choose a boot (or shoe) of my choice. I choose boot, hands down.
I've narrowed it down to 20.
I know that's insane, but so is trying to decide on a pair!

If you haven't heard or checked out The Frye Company before, you're missing out.
They are top notch quality, using suede and leather to make the most amazing boots possible. I was seriously floored by the choices, and the styles.
It's boot art, seriously.

I've been wanting a pair of heeled black ones for the longest time and fell in love with the Harmony boot you'll see below, but since these boots will outlast me, I'm starting to lean towards a smaller heel or flat boot.
Plus, I think I'll get more wear out of them if they're lower.
And I have my cognac colored pair from Aldo, so I don't want the same color I'm 99% sure...

What do you think?
I'd LOVE your input, as you're all gonna be the ones that will see them here and that will I style the boots for.
Thanks guys! :D

skirt kick

Guys, I can't seem to get rid of my skirt kick.
I swear, ever since I started this blog I rarely wear pants.
I have an abundant love for my skirts, even in the winter.

It was pouring rain, yet warm today so I tried to toughen up the skirt with
a black top and combat boots.
Its an edgier twist to a cute sweater skirt.

And yes, I did buy it yesterday, along with that bracelet.
I'm one of those people who HAS to wear something they bought the day before, the next day.

I liked it surprisingly! Excited to wear it again a totally different way :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful day! Gonna catch up on my blog reading now.

What would you like to see this skirt paired with?
