auld lang syne

I may sound like a broken record to any friends, but I'll say it again --- This year is gonna be the game changer for me. It's a fresh start, and I've never believed it or needed it more than I do now.

Here are my resolutions, all of which I hope to keep. They have been put on the back burner for far too long and I intend to keep every one of them. It won't be easy, but when I look back in December 2012, it will be worth it.

Hope everyone is happy, safe and healthy ringing in the New Year!
I love you all dearly, and can't wait to see what 2012 brings for all of us :)

[In regards to #9, a new year, a new life and and a new me  = major changes in the blog. Name included. It's a long-ish story but when I feel ready to migrate, I'll tell you the story and hope to have continued support and understanding]

get togethers

Just some quick snaps of the outfit I wore to yet another get together with a friend home for the holidays, then a coffee and chat with another.
I've always wished I was the one coming home, but it's just as nice to be the one welcoming and the one that friends look forward to seeing too.
This is the year that I've seen my friends over the holidays the most and it's amazing.

Until I was about 16, I thought having a million friends was better than having 20 close ones.
Man was I ever wrong.
The friends I have now are beyond anything I could have imagined I would ever have.
Guys, you are all so wonderful and I love you all to pieces!

For New Years I was going to, yet again, go to a friends but decided to stay home and hopefully the hub will have a mini celebration with me.. which equals cheap champagne, chips and tv.
But hey, it's all about being together, and I cherish it more than I ever did.

(Coming next is my list of New Years resolutions, an announcement and a look back on the last 5 months of blogging.)

weekend with instagram

A few snippets of my holiday weekend... my tree (which the kids totally decorated nicely then wrecked), doing puzzles with my girl, beautiful gifts from the best friend Courtney, and the hubs.
And this week will be filled with more morning smoothies, chocolate roobios tea and regular choco, mostly in pjs.

The few days in between Christmas and New Years everyone is only thinking of the other day off they get. I seem to be one of them, and outfits have been put on the back burner.

But with all this lovely stuff, and if  I ever make it to the gym to be able to fit into my new things, I'll be posting outfits!
Here's hoping for tomorrow :)

Hope everyone is having such a beautiful holiday with friends and family!

Merry Christmas Eve !

is that hummus?

Is anyone else using the new uploader?
I adore some features, but man is it ever a pain the butt to type words over and around pictures when you don't know how to format the new way!
Plus you can only pick sizing of the picture in S,M,L,XL ..HTML is not my forte to go fix them manually!

That is totally aside as today has been AMAZING
- got my Christmas shopping done.
- got my early Christmas money so I snagged some more awesome finds, plus COLORED JEANS!
- I got my FRYE BOOTS
and best for last...
- KENDI TWEETED ME;
My blogging idol, my fashion master and ultimate inspiration for everything.
She typed words. To me. In reply to my tweet to her.
I tell you, it's like I'm in fantasy land.
I can die happy now.
(here's proof I kept..because I'm awesome like that)

{Since you're all wondering.. I love hummus. And few days ago Kendi posted this
"Shit Girls Say" video on her blog, and said she only saw it then.
The second episode came the day after and I tweeted her today giving the link and telling her to go watch it!]

These babies are all mine. It took over a month for me to get a hold of the supplier, but man do good things come to those who wait!
They are the Dorado Riding, in Tapue. For those of you who chose that style, good eyes!
They fit like a glove.
They smell, feel and look amazing.
I tweeted how they are like boot art.
No pictures could ever do them justice. I am gonna wear them until I'm in the grave!

Thank you SO MUCH Keiko Lynn & The Frye Company for hosting the giveaway, and of course to you Kends, for tweeting me.
I hope everyone had a good of a day as I did, they need to happen more often!

candy cane marshmallow pops

Today's post brought to you by my sweet tooth of candy cane and chocolatey goodness.
Oh so simple, great for the whole family, last minute party treats or to eat all by yourself :)

Today I made these bad boys:

{via}

I figured, it was easy, and a hit with the kiddos, so thats a home run for me!
I had intended on using the mini candy canes for handles, but if you know my kids.. that's a bad idea. So below is my own version!

Enjoy :)

You will need :
112g Chocolate *I used baking, but feel free to use chips or anything else you like*
24 Large Marshmallows
Parchment Paper (or Wax/Freezer)
2 tbs Butter or Margarine (optional)
1/4 cup White Sugar (optional)
4 large Candy Canes
Popsicle Sticks (or Cake Pop Sticks/Mini Candy Canes)

Start by inserting the sticks, or anything else you might be using into the large marshmallows.
* If using popsicle sticks, I found dipping the tips of them in hot water (hence the mug) helped to ease them in without squishing the marshmallows*

Once that's done, get a double-boiler to melt the chocolate. If you don't have pots compatible to double-boil, use my method below, or the microwave.

Once melted, I like to add sugar then the butter to make it softer, and more creamy.
Again, this depends on the type of chocolate you use.
*If you use chocolate chips, omit this step as they are sweet enough.*
Mix it up until smooth then remove from heat.

Gather the children to help crush the candy canes.
If they are sleeping or you do not have any, borrow some.
If that's not an option put them in a ziplock bag to crush with a meat tenderizer or a rolling pin.
I used my magic bullet, and made the pieces smaller for my kids.

Put the pieces on a flat surface, I also put them on tin foil for easy clean up.

I turned off the heat for a few so the chocolate wouldn't melt the marshmallows.
Once to desired heat, dip the half the marshmallow in the chocolate.
Tap off any excess, as the candy pieces will fall off.

Roll em', roll em', in the candy!

Place the finished ones on the parchment or wax paper to set.
*I placed them in the freezer for 10 minutes to help it along.*

Find a taste tester, and enjoy :)

black out, white out

Currently loving . . .

Black & White!

{Buy Black: Blazer, Trousers, Pumps, Bracelet, Clutch, Bib Necklace}

Ever since I saw Blair's White Out post, I was totally in love with the whole 'out' ensembles.
She actually got me into loving monochromatic outfits as well!
Oh I wish I was brave enough to have a black or white out day.
..but now that I type it, it reminds me of the office. Using white out so much I black out from brain usage..

layer it up

{Outfit Details}
Jean shirt - Thrifted
Sweater Dress - Urban Planet
Leggings & Earrings- Forever 21
Boots - Aldo
Bracelets - Sirens & Forever 21

Found this idea to layer a sweater dress under a jean shirt, on no other than Pinterest.
I totally want to have a light grey dress and a lighter denim shirt as a remix, but I would need both of those things..
*le sigh*

Today was half warm! Probably from all the body heat of the bazillion last minute shoppers...myself included.
I hate HATE carrying a jacket through the mall, so I layered up.
One of my best ideas!

Got a few more items for myself, from my mama as a gift.
(She sent me money, love you mama, thanks!)
Got all my fam done besides dad, and I need one last co-worker gift then I'm done.
...besides stockings stuffers...and homemade cards...and wrapping gifts.

Okay maybe I'm not done.

recital

[Man do I love Starbucks. Even in the freezing rain and cold I get my 'grande java chip frappuccino']

This is what I wore (gotta be a 'hip mother') to my little girl's first ever recital. Well, it was a daycare Christmas concert but she got up there and sang her little heart out and didn't cry one bit.
That's my girl. Gonna be a little singer like her mama :)

I was so proud, she was a superstar up there. Even moreso than usual. She looked super sweet in her Christmas dress and her 'piggy tails ' and she calls them. Next year my boy will be in it as well. Tear overload expected.
It's a different feeling for me being on the other side; I always watched my mom smile and be happy for me never fully knowing why she was so proud.
Now I totally get the feeling.

I'm one of those people who now admits that their mama was right about (most) things, and honestly I'm glad I never knew before because new feelings are the best feelings.

Hope everyone has a great weekend
&
thanks for reading!

musings of a late-night blogger

I was trying to think of a post for tonight, as I didn't get any outfit pictures taken today and I have no spares.

Frantic cause I didn't want to be 2 days without a post, I tried to make some kind of list, something anything to post.
As per usual I went to the internet for inspiration and stumbled on an old post from a fantastic mommy blogger, Absolutely Bananas. (If you've never heard of her, I encourage you to stop on by and read a few posts, she makes light of everyday things with her hilarity. And being a mother I totally relate to most 'mother posts')

She wrote a mini-series of tips and tricks for new bloggers getting started, and this totally hit home for me tonight...

Every post is the most important post

Think of every post that you write as the first and most important post that a new reader will see.

Ask yourself,

  • Does this post reflect my best work?
  • Does this post represent what my blog is about?
  • Is this post likely to convince new readers to keep reading?
  • If the answer to any of these questions is no; rethink posting.

Let’s say that a major site links to your blog, driving massive amounts of traffic. Let’s also pretend that you don’t know this site is linking to you until the link has already been live for a full day. If you’ve followed my “every post is important” rule, you’re ok. Readers will come to your blog, immediately see a great representation of what you’re about, and subscribe. You will live happily ever after. If, on the other hand, your latest post is a meme that you threw together in five minutes, or an other less-than-stellar example of your work, you’ll be kicking yourself for a wasted opportunity.

That last paragraph happened to me when I won the Frye Boot contest, I thought "wow! Keiko linked my blog and she has thousands of readers, maybe I'll get a few new followers and gain some new 'blog friends'. But as that last part said.. that last post was shit and i've been kicking myself ever since.

Quality over quantity
So you’re probably thinking, “well gee thanks. How in the world am I supposed to come up with great content day in and day out?” Let me fill you in on a secret.

It’s better to publish less often with high-quality content than to publish daily with crap.

Seriously. Your readers will wait a day or two or even longer when they know your next post is likely to be really good. What they won’t do is put up with a barrage of garbage in their feed reader day after day after DAY.

Try it. Skip a day. Skip two days. Skip a whole week.

Crazy, right? Not really.

One of the benefits of taking some time off from blogging is that you’ll find your mind begins to overflow with really great ideas, until you CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE and you sit down to a veritable stream of bloggy goodness.

Your readers will thank you.

Wowza..pretty much summed everything up tonight. I've been doing a million things and hate to have excuses or reasons why my posts sucks and have been very sparce lately. I am terribly sorry to my readers, no only have I neglected the whole essence of why I started this blog, I am giving you guys less than okay posts which is totally unfair.
I am currently working on a personal project, that I think will truly be 'my baby' of hobbies and something I strive to do well in everyday.
Again, thank you for not giving up on me, and being my constant encouragements.

Man, am I ever ready for the New Year, and a new start. No quits this time.
Can I get an Amen to that?

another instagram haul :)

While Christmas shopping with my little guy today, I spotted some great deals that I simply couldn't pass up.

transition

From Church...

To Errands!

{Outfit Details}
Coat, Tops & Stud Earrings - Forever 21
Blazer - Thrifted
Skirt - Envy; Marquis
Boots - Aldo
Shoes & Socks- Payless
Scarf & Necklace - Ardene

Hey guys!
A transition for you today :) From church to errands!
Night I wore the traditional choir 'white top, black bottoms' get-up for our Cantata.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed being in the choir, and around some amazing people, it is finally good to say that I am done.
Free until the 9th!

My good friend gave me my own Netflix account for an early Christmas gift (I was mooching off his for awhile...I know, sad I mooch an 8$ service..)
So the couch pretty much has me booked until the next semester starts.
Just kidding.

I plan on blogging more, putting more thought into my outfits, and of course get a move on with those recipes! I now have the free time to cook and get creative so no excuse.

Plus I am so far behind on everyone's posts!
Tomorrow night is going to be a total catch up night...oh yeah, after the gym (that I have managed to not go to for 3 weeks...oops)

christmas wishlist

My fav blog ladies are all starting to make their lists, so it's about time I made mine :)

This year I'm keeping it realistic in pricing.
No mansions this time around...

These items I have been dreaming about for the last few months as you can probably tell (it's a mix of items from my 'love lists' categories.)
Sequins, knits, chiffon, prints, booties...and a good bag.
I wasn't joking when I said I only have one bag, that HAS to change in the new year.

Plus I really need new glasses..so that's more of a need.
I think a new pair in a different style could really change my look!

This holiday season I seem to be more open in my choices and more reluctant to fall into my
'pyjamas and junk food forever' moods -- which are never good!

{Litas, Cardigan, Blouse, Jeans, Glasses, Booties, Leggings, Bag, Wedges, Skirt}

So guys, what's on your wish lists this holiday?

white wedding

Marriage.
It's a huge word for me. A big deal.
I was surprised that I didn't cry when I was trying the dresses on.
Maybe its because we live and have kids together so our lives have been one for a long time.
But the effect is still there. It's surreal and amazing.

These are the dresses I didn't pick but equally loved.
Each one is an upgrade from the previous until we finally got it right.
You'll see THE dress after the day, sorry peeps!

“He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.”
